Haiti - FLASH : Haiti deploys the army against attacks on Port-au-Prince airport (Video)

Haiti has deployed soldiers from the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H) in support of PNH police officers to repel attempts to take control since Monday by armed gangs of the International Toussaint Louverture airport.

It is believed that the gangs' objectives are to prevent Acting Prime Minister Ariel Henry from returning to Haiti after his stay in Kenya to sign a reciprocity agreement allowing the deployment of the Multinational Mission to Support the PNH in its fight against gangs https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-41784-haiti-flash-haiti-and-kenya-signed-the-bilateral-agreement-essential-for-the-deployment-of-the-mission-video.html

Several dozen heavily armed gang members violated the perimeter wall of Toussaint Louverture international airport. The attackers exchanged heavy fire with police and FAd'H soldiers as they attempted to reach the main airport buildings to seize the facilities, but were ultimately stopped before doing so. At least 6 police officers were reportedly killed as well as an unknown number of attackers killed or injured

The airport was closed at the time of the attack and no passengers were present or planes used, but staff members were forced to take shelter

No planes are allowed to land until further notice and all US airline flights have been canceled since Monday.

A large number of police and soldiers are stationed at the airport to keep it under Government control.
