Haiti - Health : Memorandum of Understanding of 520.000 euros, between Nantes-Métropole and the AMAGA
The Communication Office of the President Martelly informed us, that yesterday Wednesday, November 9, 2011, in the presence of the representatives of the Ministry of Interior, of Territorial Collectivities and National Defense, the community Nantes-Métropole, the University Hospital of Nantes, the Hospital Saint-Antoine of Jérémie and the City of Abricots, on behalf of the Association of Mayors of Grand Anse (AMAGA), have proceeded to the signing of a convention, Wednesday, November 9, as part of a joint cooperation between these entities.

This agreement is intended to provide technical, financial and administrative support to the Hospital of Jérémie, especially through training of medical and nursing staff, the renovation of the premises of this health facility and a contribution in medical equipments.

This protocol that mobilizes a financing of 512,000€, 28 million gourds, follows two framework agreements signed the previous day between Nantes-Métropole and the AMAGA designed to help the latter to be structured, in particular by establishing an office and launch a public health policy for water supply and sanitation in all municipalities of the department.

In this sense, an ambitious program of construction of latrines and of management of water sources is intended to help reduce, among other things, the risk of spread of cholera among the local population. This cooperation of territorial collectivities should reach 80,000 families.

The Ministry of Interior, of Territorial Collectivities and National Defense wishes to encourage the initiatives of municipalities and also demonstrate the government's desire to promote the decentralized cooperation for sustainable development.
