Haiti - FLASH : USA repatriates 52 Haitians to Haiti...

Thursday April 18, 2024, after an interruption of almost three months without repatriation of migrants to Haiti, the United States repatriated 52 Haitians (40 men and 12 women), in an irregular migratory situation on the territory of the United States, officials announced Haitians and Americans.

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed having "organized a repatriation flight for around fifty Haitian citizens" who landed at Cap-Haïtien international airport. The Spokesman clarified that none of the Haitians expelled had a legal basis to remain in the United States, emphasizing "American policy consists of returning to their country all people who have not established a legal basis to remain in the United States."

Let's recall that in March 2024, nearly 500 human rights organizations, given the worsening crisis in Haiti, published a letter addressed to American officials, including President Biden, which emphasized that armed groups were terrorizing the population through systematic rapes, indiscriminate kidnappings and massacres, all with impunity since the State does not function and requested a moratorium on expulsions to Haiti.

Despite this appeal from the United States, the Biden administration has decided to resume Haitian repatriation operations, the imperatives of the presidential elections clearly taking precedence over human rights...
