Haiti - Insecurity : Armed individuals storm the Gressier police station (video)
Friday May 10, 2024 in the evening, heavily armed men launched a series of attacks in the commune of Gressier (south of Port-au-Prince) sowing terror among the population.

Testimonies from residents report houses being looted and burned. Citizens targeted were reportedly injured or killed... forcing the population to take refuge outside the area to save their lives...

Early Saturday morning, armed bandits stormed the police station which is located in an area controlled by Renel Destina alias "Ti Lapli", leader of the Grand Ravine gang of at least 300 men.

According to testimonies, the exchange of fire between the bandits and the police lasted several hours before the police retreated in the face of the number and superiority of the firepower of the attackers.

Several vehicles in the police station yard were set on fire

So far local authorities have not been able to specify the number of people injured or killed in the town. Lionel Lazarre, the Coordinator of the National Union of Haitian Police Officers (SYNAPOHA), was also unable to indicate whether there had been any casualties in the ranks of the police during this attack.

The police union SPNH-17 indicated on "X" that 25 police stations and branches are now in the hands of gangs.
