Haiti - Health : In May 2024, Cuban doctors in Haiti performed 4,711 surgical interventions
During the month of May 2024, the Cuban Medical Brigade in Haiti performed 4,711 free surgical interventions including 1,018 major and 3,693 minor, or 3.6 minor surgical interventions performed for each major intervention.
Compared to forecasts, major surgical interventions were up by +119.7% and minor operations by +143.7%.
The medical brigade's monthly forecasts for May (3,419 estimated operations) were exceeded by 138%. From January to May, 22,528 operations were carried out.
43,680 operations is the objective set for 2024.
Cuban doctors in Haiti performed hysterectomies, cesareans, ectopic pregnancies, inguinal herniorrhaphy, hydroceles, appendectomies, among other operations, in addition to emergency surgeries.
