Let's recall that Joly, in a letter addressed to United States District Judge John D. Bates, before his sentencing, had asked for forgiveness and implored the judge's clemency. Recall that federal prosecutors were seeking a life sentence for facilitating the purchase and smuggling of high-powered weapons from Florida to Haiti. Joly's lawyers argued that he should not receive more than 17 years in prison... Let's recall that his former American girlfriend Eliande Tunis (46) from Pompano Beach, Florida, was sentenced earlier this month to 12.5 years in prison.
