Artibonite : at least 8 people kidnapped

From Sunday June 23 to Tuesday June 25, 2024, at least 8 people were kidnapped and trucks hijacked by members of the "Gran grif" gang, from Savien, in Artibonite, reported a radio station in the Capital. The kidnappers demand a high ransom in exchange for the release of the hostages

A ambulance stolen

The National Ambulance Center (CAN) informs the judicial and police authorities and the general public that on the afternoon of June 25, 2024 at around 4:30 p.m. armed individuals seized a CAN ambulance registered SE-00863, Mobile 307, in the commune of l'Ester, precisely in the Croix-Périsse area where these individuals operated. A complaint has been filed and efforts are continuing with the Police and other relevant authorities with a view to recovering the ambulance. CAN urges the population to be vigilant and pay attention to the license plates of CAN ambulances circulating in the streets.

A 5th Haitian qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games

Officials of the Haitian Olympic Committee have validated the qualification of judoka Philippe-Abel Metellus for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Philippe-Abel Metellus becomes the 5th Haitian qualified for these Olympic Games after Pierre Stéphan (gymnastics), Cédrick Belony Duliepre (boxing), Lynnzee Brown (artistic gymnastics) and Christopher Borzor (athletics).

Signing of an agreement on cassava with the WFP

The World Food Program (WFP) and the "Feed the Future" project have signed a 2-year agreement which will benefit, among others, nearly 3,000 small producers and 10 cassavereries. The agreement aims to strengthen the production, processing, marketing and consumption of cassava in the Center department as well as the integration of sweet cassava and its derivatives into school food.

Dr. Jean Patrick Alfred, Director of the Study and Programming Unit (UEP) at the Ministry of Public Health, won the Pan American Organization (PAHO/WHO) Award for management and leadership of health services over the past ten years. This Award is given each year to a candidate who has contributed significantly to strengthening the development of health systems through the management and implementation of services and programs, teaching and research in their own country and in the region of the Americas.

BINUH welcomes the arrival of the Kenyans

The United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) welcomes the arrival of a first contingent from Kenya to support the Haitian National Police (PNH) "this is a crucial step in the fight to restore security in Haiti and protect the rights of Haitians. We await the full deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS), as authorized by the United Nations Security Council."
