Haiti - Politic : Sectoral Table of the school feeding sub-sector, an impressive record
Thursday July 18, 2024, the 10th meeting of the Sectorial Table of the school feeding sub-sector was held at the Karibe Convention Center Hotel, (Juvena, Pétion-ville), in person and online.

In this large quarterly meeting, Augustin Antoine as Minister of National Education, Ms. Djina Guillet Delatour, General Coordinator of the National School Canteen Program (PNCS), Clément Rouquette, Representative of the World Food Program (WFP) participated among others...

Extracts from the intervention of Ms. Djina GUILLET DELATOUR :

"[...] I remember the day of the launch of the school feeding sectoral table in Haiti. Friday July 29, 2016 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18172-haiti-politic-launch-of-the-sectoral-table-school-feeding.html at the announcement of this great event, the National Program of Cantines Scolaires (PNCS) and its partners were all excited about this launch. It was the start of an adventure that promised to be long and beneficial [...] at the time, we had no funding and I said, let’s throw this table and the funding will come. Today, I am happy to announce to you that the WFP through the Resilient Agriculture Project for Food Security (PARSA) hhttps://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-41095-haiti-parsa-project-feed-100-000-students-daily-with-local-products.html and McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program ensures this monitoring [...]

[...] depending on the objectives that we set ourselves at the outset and despite the accelerated deterioration of food supply across the national territory, added to the bleak socio-political context, a lot of efforts have been made, certain achievements, in testify:
  • The new version of the national school feeding policy and strategies 2024-2030;
  • The progression of results going from 17% to 45% coverage;
  • The increase in local purchases going from 10% to almost 40%;
  • The deworming and vitamin A supplementation campaign;
  • Taking into account educational establishments in difficult-to-access areas;
  • Promoting the use of local products in school canteens;
  • The integration of preschool and secondary school into the target groups of school feeding;
  • Strengthening horizontal relations with the directorates and units of the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training and other school feeding stakeholders;
  • Weekly meetings with the PNCS branches;
  • Monthly meetings with the various actors working in the field around the departmental consultation table.

    It is no less important to make this reminder as we are at the end of the academic year and we have operations to plan for the new year.
    […]
    Don't be discouraged on such a good path. Continue to work for the benefit of our schoolchildren who are the future of the country. As we are accustomed to repeating, 'The day we understand the importance of school feeding for sustainable development in Haiti, the country will experience a new day' [...]"
