Haiti - Cooperation : Taiwan could donate more supplies to Haiti

Tuesday July 23, 2024, Cheng Li-cheng, Head of the Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), believes that the political and social unrest in Haiti seems to be stabilizing since the arrival of the forces of Kenyan police last month and that Taiwan (Republic of China) could donate more supplies to help Haiti in difficulty.

Cheng Li-cheng said Taiwan was ready to help as long as it remained within its capabilities, specifying that Taiwan's aid to Haiti focuses on general security, food security and social support.

The Haitian government has asked Taiwan to provide more aid in these areas and the two governments are discussing what exactly Haiti needs.

Separately, Cheng said his ministry was still evaluating whether it was time to return two members of the Taiwanese technical mission evacuated from Haiti in March 2024.

Meanwhile, the Ambassador of Taiwan to Haiti, Ku Wen-jiann, established friendly interactions with Prime Minister Garry Conille, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dominique Dupuy and President of the Presidential Transitional Council Edgard Leblanc Fils and relations Bilateral diplomatic relations remained strong and stable, Cheng said.
