Haiti - Security : Kenyan police officers in Haiti are well paid

On Thursday 1st August 2024, during his consideration by the Appointments Committee, Professor Kithure Kindiki, President William Ruto’s candidate for Minister of Interior and Coordination of National Government, in response to questions on the salary conditions of Kenyan officers in Haiti said "Our officers are covered, insured, and paid by the United Nations, so there is no cause for alarm."

These officers earn US$1,410 per month, (last revised rate 2017) or about Ksh 182,242 at the current exchange rate. This salary framework, approved by the United Nations General Assembly in June 2014, has remained in force with slight increases over the years.

In addition to this amount, officers are entitled to a monthly mission subsistence allowance of US$756 which adds Ksh97,713 to their monthly income for a total of US$2,170.19 per month (Ksh279,955)
