Haiti - Hinche : Towards a strengthened cooperation for environmental management

The Departmental Directorate (DDC) and the Delegation of the Center organized the 5th session of the Departmental Environmental Sectoral Table of the Center, an initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation between key actors to address environmental and climate challenges in the Center department.

This session, which is part of the priorities of Minister Moise Fils Jean Pierre, brought together the Departmental Directors of Ministries, decentralized services, representatives of local authorities, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), as well as members of civil society. The main objective was to raise awareness among these actors to join forces to develop sustainable solutions to the environmental problems of the region.

The Departmental Director of the Center of the Ministry of the Environment (MDE) Ing. Agr. Yves Augustin, stressed the importance of collective participation, particularly for waste management in the department, and more specifically in the city of Hinche. He called for a general mobilization for an efficient management of environmental resources, in line with the vision of Minister Moise Fils Jean Pierre, who places cooperation between stakeholders at the heart of his environmental strategy.

During this session, the Carraibeen Center for the Rehabilitation of the Environment and Economy (CECAREE), a technical partner of the SDC, presented a project to set up a modern landfill in Hinche. This initiative, in collaboration with the Departmental Directorate Center of the MDE, marks an important step towards more sustainable waste management in the region.

A technical monitoring committee was formed, including representatives of the SDC/MDE, CECAREE, the Ministries of Social Affairs and Labor and Public Works, the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA), the Hinche City Hall, the Hinche civil society, as well as local media. This committee will be responsible for supervising the implementation of the initiatives discussed.

Caritas Diocésaine de Hinche, a technical and financial partner, also took the opportunity to share its achievements in the environmental field, thus emphasizing the importance of an integrated and collaborative approach.

This session was made possible thanks to the support of the Global Climate Change Alliance+ (GCCA+) project, funded by the European Union in Haiti.

The next session is scheduled for October 24, 2024.
