Haiti - Security : Important meeting to strengthen the capacities of the PNH

The Acting Director General of the Haitian National Police (PNH), Rameau Normil, held a strategic meeting with representatives of the Haitian Citizenship Security Program (HCSP), a program led by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in partnership with the Community Police component of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL).

This meeting is part of the capacity building program of the Police Institution and reflects the desire of the Commander in Chief of the PNH to consolidate international cooperation in this area.

The meeting was attended by Erick Pacific of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID-Haiti), Kalinda Magloire, HCSP Project Manager, Paulson Pierre Philippe, Team Leader Community Approach Component 1 of the HCSP, Jean Gardy Muscadin, Technical Advisor and Hervé François of the Community Police Component of the INL.

Director Normil and the various representatives discussed several points, including the collaboration between the PNH, the HCPS and the INL in implementing the community approach in the targeted neighborhoods to restore trust between the population and the police, facilitate community dialogue and enable the PNH to integrate socio-educational and community activities.

In addition, the project includes other components such as initiatives aimed at empowering young people by offering them alternatives that could prevent them from joining gangs. The project also includes: the design and implementation of a strategic communication plan, one of the objectives of which is to facilitate interaction between the police and the population; support for prevention and assistance units for vulnerable people, including potential victims of gender-based violence and the possibility of post-traumatic support for police officers.
