Haiti - FLASH : Update on the progress of joint operations 03/09/2024 09:25:07
On Monday, September 2ns, 2024, during a press briefing, Divisional Commissioner Michel Ange Louis Jeune, Spokesperson for the Haitian National Police (PNH), officially presented Lieutenant Jhunie Laura Ganeme and Police Commissioner Jack Ombaka, respectively as the spokespersons for the Armed Forces of Haiti (FADH) and the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS). The opportunity for Michel Ange Louis Jeune to provide an update of the progress of the joint police operations that have been taking place since August 27 in the Bel-Air and Solino neighborhoods, while specifying that a report will be coming shortly. According to the information provided, these operations are being carried out with professionalism and efficiency thanks to a synergy created between the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAD'H), the MMSS and specialized units of the PNH. He took the opportunity to point out to the population that the neighborhoodsof Bas-Delmas, Bel-Air, Fort National and Solino are the main places where the police are currently intervening, whose objective is first to recover the areas occupied for more than 3 years by criminal gangs, to put the bandits out of harm's way and finally to guarantee the protection of the lives and property of the population. Furthermore, the PNH Spokesperson reported that several places have already been liberated. Part of Fort National is now under the control of the PNH. Traffic is starting to resume in Bas-Delmas. In addition, several bandits were killed in exchanges of fire with the police, firearms recovered and individuals arrested. Michel-Ange Louis Jeune specified that the PNH is not just satisfied of freeing up spaces, but is also concerned with consolidating them in order to ensure that the bandits do not return.
