Haiti - FLASH : Football match sparks gang war in Cité Soleil
On Wednesday, September 11, 2024 in the evening, during the final of a football championship between two teams from Cité Soleil, Boston against Simon Pelé, violence broke out between supporters following a disputed penalty, awarded to the Boston team at the expense of that of Simon Pelé according to Pastor Enock Joseph.

Violence condemned in the strongest terms by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which deplores these excesses and unacceptable behaviors that go against the values of solidarity, tolerance, and respect advocated by sport.

The violence continued outside the stadium after one of the two teams refused to accept the result of the match. Not having a sportsmanship spirit but rather a spirit of revenge, the gangs of these two neighborhoods took up arms and clashed, causing panic among the population, many of whom began to leave the area to avoid being victims of this violence... Many deaths and injuries have been reported on both sides, but no figures are available...

Should be noted that it had been several months since there had been any clashes between these rival gangs, members of the "Living Together" alliance.

Among the victims were the second leader of Simon Pelé's gang, John, who was fatally injured, while "Bendji", the leader of Belekou, who came to reinforce the Boston gang, was injured in the foot...

On Thursday, 24 hours after the start of the resumption of the war between gangs, tensions remained high and clashes were still reported.
