Haiti - FLASH : Towards the restitution of the original copy of the Act of Independence of Haiti (Video)
Dominique Dupuy, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, from London where she is on an official visit, visited the National Archives in order to see the original copy of Haiti's birth certificate.

This visit is of capital importance, as it could provide crucial elements for historical research and the validation of official documents relating to Haiti's independence. The Minister met with the archives officials and had access to various documents and registers to identify traces of this fundamental act in Haitian history.

This approach is part of a broader effort to preserve and enhance Haiti's historical heritage. Steps are underway to recover the original copy of Haiti's independence act.

Let's recall that it was in February 2021 that Julia Gaffield, a Canadian student who was doing doctoral studies in history at Duke University in North Carolina, found in London the Act of Independence of Haiti, the only original copy to have ever existed, which Haitian historians believed had definitively disappeared.
