Haiti - DIGICEL : «Failure» detected on an international submarine cable, against a backdrop of litigation 17/09/2024 09:31:27 Faced with these facts, our technical teams have put in place temporary measures to ensure the continuity of essential services. We are aware of the impact that this situation has on our customers who deserve to remain connected as well as on our operations. We have taken note of the open letter from Paret Hospitality Group S.A. published on September 15, mentioning a debt from Digicel to them. Digicel wants to be clear : We have no debt to Paret Hospitality Group S.A. We inform the population that there is a legal action pending on this case since 2021, which has not yet been the subject of a court decision. Pending a judgment, Paret Hospitality Group S.A. cannot unilaterally demand financial compensation. It is regrettable that a person can disrupt access to an essential public service, especially in a context of insecurity where communication is crucial. In addition, it should be noted that this cable is used by all operators in the country who are also affected. Digicel thanks its customers, partners, the press and the general public for their patience and support. We keep our teams mobilized on site and continue to seek the support of the competent authorities to quickly restore all services and continue to serve the population. Finally, we hope that Mr. Paret, who addressed his 'fellow citizens' in his open letter, will show solidarity with them. Digicel acknowledges the defamation campaign of Mr. Fritz Emmanuel Paret, and reserves the right to take all legal action against his allegations. " In his open letter dated September 15, Emmanuel Fritz Robert Paret, owner of Paret Hospitality Group S.A and the Kaliko Beach Club hotel, claims that since 2019 Digicel has owed his company $2.5 million for using its property as a cable entry point. He states that he has tried several times to settle this matter amicably, without success, and deplores the fact that the debt has never been paid. He announces that he can no longer support Digicel's operations without receiving the compensation he is owed, and his lawyers are currently engaged in steps to assert his rights in court. Breaking News : The National Telecommunications Council (CONATEL) has reportedly filed a lawsuit to allow Digicel access to the Kaliko Beach property to carry out repairs to its fiber optic cable connection, ensuring that the population should not be the victim of this dispute… HL/ HaitiLibre
