Haiti - FLASH : The first 100 days of the PM and his promises (Video)
On Thursday, September 19, 2024, during a public hearing on the occasion of his first 100 days in office, Prime Minister Garry Conille renewed his commitment to organize general elections in November 2025.

"I have no doubt that together, we will succeed in restoring security. We will help displaced people return home. We will revive our economy. We will make the necessary changes to our Constitution and finally, we will organize elections next year, and there will be a new Government on February 7, 2026," promised Conille.

It should be recalled that in view of these elections, the Government published a decree in which it appoints 7 of the 9 members of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and sets the mandate of this body. The two other absent members (Human Rights Defense sector and women's sector) are expected in the coming days... https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43238-haiti-elections-finally-a-provisional-electoral-council-to-prepare-the-first-elections.html

To organize the holding of general elections, as well as to revise the Constitution and carry out the necessary reforms of the constitutional text Conille specified "We have estimated that we will need about 120 million dollars to finance the process, but we are quite confident in our ability to mobilize these resources [...] Thanks to the support of Governments and partners, we have created a common fund to finance the elections. In Haiti, we have contributed more than a third of the amount that will be needed to guarantee the revision of the Constitution and move forward decisively..."

Regarding the election, Conille warned that the violence of armed gangs, particularly in the West and Artibonite departments, represents a major obstacle to free and fair elections. "It is imperative that we understand the seriousness of the current situation in our country and that it is not underestimated, as well as the violence of armed groups and the deterioration of the economic, social, humanitarian and security situation [...]"

Furthermore, the Executive ensures that it is mobilizing experts to support the CEP, in order to ensure that nothing is missing in terms of technical assistance and any other type of support necessary for the holding of elections.

According to the Head of Government, "the elections of November 2025 and the inauguration of an elected Government in 2026 will be crucial steps to begin building a stronger and undoubtedly more resilient Nation."
