Haiti - FLASH : Guatemala confirms it will send 150 soldiers to Haiti
On Monday, September 23rd, 2024, during the meeting of the Special Advisory Group on Haiti of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), in New York, the President of Guatemala Bernardo Arévalo, whose country was participating for the first time in ECOSOC, in his speech before the Advisory Group, spoke about the political, humanitarian and security crisis that Haiti is currently facing. He stressed that it is essential to seek a comprehensive solution to end this difficult situation. "The path to Peace in Haiti requires both security and economic and social progress. We will continue to support the Special Advisory Group and all efforts to seek inclusive and sustainable solutions," said the President.

President Arévalo announced that 150 Guatemalan military officers will be deployed to Haiti as part of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS), emphasizing "This reflects our commitment to stability and peace in the region."

He stressed that the actions adopted at the meeting of the consultative group must contribute to the prosperity and stability of Haiti.
