Haiti - Education : Martelly met with students and the rector of the UEH
Michel Martelly, the President of the Republic, accompanied by Prime Minister Garry Conille, some members of the Haitian government and parliament, met yesterday Thursday at the National Palace, the highest authority of the State University of Haiti (UEH) and a group of students representing the various entities of the UEH.

The Head of State, by this meeting, begins the process of supervision and of strengthening of the State University of Haiti, one of its promises electoral campaign promises. During this long discussion with the authorities of the UEH, various points were discussed, such as the inventory of the training at the level of the UEH, its importance in the development of the country, the integration of young graduates in public administration, the direct involvement of the university in the major decisions in favor of change, the capacity of the institution, etc...

"The University is of less in less able to play its role" said Jean Henry Vernet, Rector of the UEH who, while congratulating the President Martelly for this noble initiative, believes necessary to establish a formal framework for cooperation with state institutions and to establish a tripartite working group Government/Parliament/UEH.

The President of the Republic, while promising them his support, invite those responsible of the institution to go to work to establish the new foundations of a state university, with its own campus, a modern curriculum which satisfies to the requirements of development, and a qualified teaching staff.



The UEH which consists of over 25,000 students, whose 13,000 to Port-au-Prince, had lost 80% of its structures during the events of January 12, 2010.
