Haiti - Politic : Mass deportation from the Dom Rep., reactions from the Haitian chancellery
Reacting to the Dominican announcement of a mass expulsion of Haitian citizens in an irregular migratory situation on Dominican territory, Dominique Dupuy, the Haitian Chancellor, declared :

"We take note of the announcement made on October 2nd, 2024 by the Dominican authorities, concerning a series of discriminatory measures providing for up to 10,000 deportations of Haitian nationals per week https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43334-haiti-flashrepatriation-of-10-000-haitians-per-week-the-great-hunt-has-begun-in-the-dominican-rep.html writes in a note Dominique Dupuy, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Haiti calls for respect for the inalienable rights of every child, every woman and every man targeted by this regrettable decision, in accordance with the international treaties and agreements governing the matter.

"We will accelerate the strengthening of the capacities of our Diplomatic Mission and our Consular Posts in order to assist our fellow citizens in the Dominican Republic with dignity.

The Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (of which she is also the Minister) will meet shortly with civil society organizations and international agencies operating in the border area, in order to define a strategy for supporting repatriated compatriots."

Chancellor Dupuy discussed with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) the situation of undocumented Haitians in the Dominican Republic, to discuss the safety of migrants. "Our productive discussions focused on the situation of internally displaced persons and the safety of migrants, particularly with regard to support under the program for access to identity documents for Haitian nationals in the Dominican Republic."

In addition, the Directorate of Immigration and Emigration of the Ministry of the Interior informs the public that, as part of the improvement of its services, the production of passports will be temporarily concentrated on applications from the Dominican Republic, including Santo Domingo, Santiago, Barahona and Higuey.

Passport applications from these jurisdictions will be processed as a priority. However, emergency applications from other jurisdictions will also be processed, using an optimized methodology to ensure maximum efficiency.
