Haiti - FLASH : More than 5,600 Haitians at risk of dying of hunger in the short term... 04/10/2024 10:02:56 "The number of people facing acute hunger in Haiti has reached almost half the population" according to the latest analysis of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC). While Haiti continues to face a security crisis, 5.4 million Haitians struggle daily to feed themselves, representing one of the highest proportions of people in acute food insecurity in a global food crisis. Among them, two million people are facing Emergency food insecurity (IPC Phase 4), facing production problems, extreme food shortages, acute malnutrition and high levels of diseases caused by insufficient nutritional intake. According to the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report, more than 5,600 displaced people, living in temporary shelters in Port-au-Prince after fleeing their homes, are now facing catastrophic levels of food insecurity (IPC Phase 5, the highest). This means that these people are facing hunger and extremely critical levels of acute malnutrition, which could cause their death in the short term. HL/ HaitiLibre
