3 Haitians shot and wounded at the Dominican border
On Saturday, October 13, 2024, three Haitians Hiltond Desantus (28 years old), Petit Homme (22), Philiphe Charise (30), hyave been shot and wounded while trying to illegally cross the Dominican border in the region of La Vigía (province of Dajabòn). They were rushed by Dominican military personnel to the Ramуn Matías Mella Hospital. The attackers, who are believed to be Dominican, have not yet been identified and the circumstances of this incident remain undisclosed for the moment.

Alarming human rights situation
On Friday, October 11, 2024, Ida Sawyer, Director of the Crisis and Conflict Division at Human Rights Watch, met with Haitian Foreign Minister Dominique Dupuy to discuss the alarming human rights situation, including mass expulsions from the Dominican Republic, the recruitment of minors by criminal groups, and the urgent need for greater international support.

It was 70 years ago
On the night of October 12 to 13, 1954, Category 4 Hurricane Hazel, considered the worst hurricane of the 1954 North Atlantic season and one of the most destructive of the 20th century, struck Haiti causing more than 1,000 deaths, destroying several towns and villages as well as approximately 40% of Haiti's coffee and 50% of its cocoa trees.
