Haiti - FLASH : Prime Minister opposes any reshuffle

On Wednesday, October 16, 2024, Prime Minister Garry Conille chaired his 6th Government Council, at the Official Residence, around the current migration crisis among others.

This Council focused particularly on a Resolution condemning the "massive and discriminatory deportations of Haitians" and even of some foreigners by the Dominican Republic without respect for legal procedures and without consideration of "human dignity" and this in a "context of growing xenophobia".

It was also an opportunity for the Government to plan urgent responses aimed at respecting the human rights of Haitian citizens while "strongly urging the Dominican authorities to cease any policy of racist and discriminatory deportation of nationals" to Haiti and to respect the fundamental rights of Haitian migrants, in accordance with international conventions, including the right to dignified treatment.

The Government Council also reviewed the various measures involving both national and local authorities relating to the reception and care of returnees up to their reintegration.

In addition, after deliberation, the Government Council, unanimously, while emphasizing dialogue and consultation, in reference to the request of the President of the Transition Council Leslie Voltaire (Fanmi Lavalas sector) who is calling for the resignation of Chancellor Dupuy and an immediate reshuffle of the Ministerial cabinet, the Council expressed its full and firm support for the Prime Minister in his decision to oppose any change of minister outside the provisions of the Constitution and the terms of the agreement of April 3rd, 2024, regulating this Peaceful and Orderly Transition.
