Haiti - FLASH : High-level emergency meeting with national security forces

On Monday, October 21, 2024, Prime Minister Garry Conille urgently convened a high-level meeting with national security forces and members of his government to assess the worrying situation prevailing, particularly in Port-au-Prince and the Artibonite region

"I firmly reaffirmed our position : we will not give up any of the strategic neighborhoods such as Solino and other recently liberated areas. The security of our fellow citizens is non-negotiable.

I have taken the decision to order the immediate recall of several hundred police officers and soldiers from elite units currently assigned to protect VIPs, so that they can be redeployed to where the security struggle is most intense, in combat zones. Each member of these units must now contribute directly to the defense of our territory.

Furthermore, I will meet with our partners in the international community to stress the urgency of strengthening cooperation to support the efforts of the National Police High Council (CSPN) and the Haitian Armed Forces (FADH). It is together, with the support of our allies, that we will succeed in restoring order and guaranteeing security for every Haitian.

I remain convinced that our victory against insecurity is imminent. We will not back down."
