Haiti - Politic : Constitutional reform and elections in Haiti on the agenda in Washington 30/10/2024 10:15:43
On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, the Haitian delegation, led by Transition Advisor Joseph Frinel, participated in a productive working day with the European Commission for Democracy through Law, better known as the Venice Commission, the Secretariat for the Strengthening of Democracy and the Permanent Observers of the Organization of American States (OAS). This 8-hour working session, facilitated by the Department of Cooperation and Electoral Observation (DECO) and the OAS, marks an important step in supporting the international community in the constitutional reform and the organization of free, safe and transparent elections in Haiti. On the Agenda of this working session: Holding of elections : Discussion on security, financing and the electoral process; Constitutional and electoral legislative framework : Reflection on the adaptation and establishment of a solid and inclusive framework; Political and electoral rights : Assessment of the fundamental rights of citizens in the context of elections; Governance and international engagement : Exploration of modalities of collaboration and support with international actors.
