Haiti - Security : USA delivers new equipment, PM criticizes international community 05/11/2024 09:06:18 Armored personnel carriers (APCs) arrived in Haiti to double the Mission’s fleet and improve mobility, along with other assistance. INL also provided other tools to help MMSS forces coordinate with the HNP and combat deadly Haitian gangs. "This assistance underscores our ongoing commitment to addressing the urgent security and humanitarian needs in Haiti. A well-equipped MSS is critical for bolstering the anti-gang efforts of the HNP. The United States remains committed to supporting the Haitian people in achieving stability that can bring about a Haitian-led political solution through free and fair elections." On Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, Prime Minister Garry Conille, during a citizens' forum in Kenscoff, was very critical of the international community, recalling that since his arrival, he had been quick to tell the international community that "the quality and quantity of aid the country is receiving is not adequate and will not solve the problem [...] We need helicopters, much more sophisticated drones," deploring the refusal to deliver certain military equipment to Haiti, claiming that it can only be delivered to armies. Regarding sophisticated drones, Conille indicated that Haiti was about to obtain them... "I went to the USA. I called friends in El Salvador, talked to people in Mexico, mobilized everyone I know in the international community to tell them that Haitian children are no less deserving than Ukrainian children." Garry Conille, who spoke about the efforts of the Haitian State to provide the PNH with equipment, weapons and ammunition, acknowledges that today, the PNH is much better equipped, but that it is not enough. In addition, he indicated that he was discussing with the army its needs. Despite everything, he believes that the security situation is better today than last July. SL/ HaitiLibre
