Haiti - Elections : First activities of the CEP

Let's recall that on Friday, October 18, 2024, 7 out of 9 members of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) appointed by decree, published on September 19, 2024 in the official newspaper "Le Moniteur", took the oath before the Court of Cassation and were installed in their functions https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43449-haiti-elections-swearing-in-of-cep-members-video-of-voltaire-s-speech.html without the Representatives of the Human Rights and Women sectors, still not having finalized their choice, and the Presidential Transitional Council, remains inactive in this matter...

At the institutional level, the members of the CEP took note of the technical files, before to undertake the necessary reforms to accomplish their mission in better conditions. They are analyzing an inventory document of the electoral system prepared and transmitted by the CEP executives.

From October 28 to 30, 2024, a delegation from the Electoral Council, composed of the President, Patrick Saint-Hilaire, the Treasurer, Jacques Desrosiers, as well as the Executive Director, Max Delices, participated in working meetings with members of the European Commission for Democracy and Law, known as the Venice Commission. https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-43519-icihaiti-politic-a-high-level-haitian-delegation-discusses-the-situation-in-haiti.html

These meetings took place under the auspices of the Organization of American States (OAS), in Washington DC. The discussions focused on the holding of elections in Haiti; security; constitutional reform; Financing and the conduct of the electoral process are among the points that were discussed.

In addition, another delegation composed of President Patrick Saint-Hilaire, Vice-President Schnaïda Adely, Executive Director Max Delices, Director of Electoral Operations Abbé Bernard and Deputy Clément Jude Charles, is currently in Washington DC as part of a program to observe the American elections.

This delegation is expected to meet with several American officials, the President of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES International Foundation and Electoral System) and officials from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The members of the CEP are committed to implementing the referendum and electoral process in a transparent and inclusive manner.
