Haiti - Economy : The Chambers of Commerce of Haiti «absent» of Forum «Invest in Haïti»
While opened today the second edition of the Forum on Investment in Haiti "Invest in Haiti" which is held in Port-au-Prince, at the Hotel Karibe, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Haiti (CHIC) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Haitian-Canadian (CCIHC) regret that they were not involved and are not directly represented in this big event.

Hervé Denis / President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Haiti (CCIH) :
"...the Chamber was not, say, a stakeholder in this Forum, what we deplore. In general we always support this type of event when it is a question of economic activities or the development of Haiti, we still see them of a good eye, but we would have liked to be involved and participate in a manner much more active.

Why our non-participation? It's a matter of logistical error, perhaps a lack of information is what was done with the parties directly involved with Haiti ? I do not know [...] we participated actively in other forums and with Laval University on tourism and sustainable development and heritage, it was very good, we were recently in Canada for the forum Haïti-Québec [...] I saw a little better than what I have here... This is unfortunate [...] That does not mean we are against the forum, but we have with us the private sector and also things to say and I think and it would be more correct that it is directly involved. [...] I also think it is time that we develop a culture of results, with a schedule of actions, that they told us exactly how long the concrete actions will be placed [...] we would like to have a little more action and fewer conferences..."

Frantz Liautaud, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Haitian-Canadian (CCIHC) :
"...our perception is that this forum is a little the suite of that of October 2009, which had mobilized a lot the interest of Haitians, to make contact with those who wish to invest in Haiti. Unfortunately a few months after we had the earthquake that crippled all these efforts [...] I guess that the IDB has desired, two years after, restore the momentum on Haiti in the context of a new government installed, of paradigm shift in the country and I think that's a good thing.

[...] I hope that this time, very quickly, we can begin to work and that real investment, generating quality jobs in this country, can be created as soon as possible. When it is a question of speak positively about our country and to invite investors to come [...] see the opportunities that exist in Haiti, I do not think that there is nothing of oo much today. But the results are there, nothing was done... We must recognize that the earthquake has just blocked the progression of things, then there is our slowness to put some order in our house, to return to a constitutionally elected government that could finally start working, all these mechanisms are finally in place today and I think the timing is excellent.

There are members of the Chamber who will be there as observers in search of contacts [...] we are not there as a Chamber of Commerce Haitian-Canadian [...] according to our information, there would have been more registered than available places [...] but certainly, our members are enrolled as investors, as businessmen in the country, looking for opportunities and to hear what it said..."
