Haiti - FLASH : 2nd conviction for corruption pronounced in 20 years by the justice system in Haiti

On Monday, November 25, 2024, the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC) informs in a note that the Criminal Court of the jurisdiction of Hinche, sitting without jury assistance, sentenced Roudel Ducherne, Inspector at the General Directorate of Taxes (DGI) of Hinche, to 4 years in prison for embezzlement of public property.

This sentence follows an investigation conducted by the ULCC, which led to the arrest of Ducherne, caught red-handed. The Court also ordered the restitution of the embezzled sums.

Note that this sentence, which comes almost 10 years after the one pronounced against Edric Léandre, former Director General of the Third-Party Vehicle Insurance Office (OAVCT), is the 2nd conviction for corruption pronounced by the Haitian justice system in 20 years !
