Haiti - Health : Reopening of the Maternity of Chancerelles

On Monday, December 2nd, 2024, Dr. Duckenson Lorthé Bléma, Minister of Public Health, reopened the Isaïe Jeanty and Léon Audain maternity hospital, better known as the Chancerelles hospital, which had been closed for almost 9 months...

The ceremony took place in the presence of its technical and financial partner Alima, some partners from civil society and the hospital team.

During his speech, Minister Bléma launched a vibrant appeal for understanding, collaboration and commitment from all, with the aim of fighting for the safety and health of the population. "With this reopening, families, especially pregnant women, will be able to benefit from dignified medical support. This will allow them to give birth in the best possible conditions and will have a positive impact on both reducing perinatal complications and reducing the maternal and infant mortality rate."

A few moments after the reopening of Chancerelles Hospital, the first patients showed up for a prenatal consultation.

Let's remember that prenatal consultations are essential for the health of the mother and baby. They allow us to monitor the development of the fetus (future baby) and ensure that the mother remains healthy throughout the pregnancy. They facilitate the early detection of potential problems, such as hypertension, gestational diabetes or fetal anomalies, in order to be able to intervene quickly.

These consultations also have an educational and preparatory role for future parents by providing them with essential information on pregnancy, childbirth and the care of the newborn in order to reduce anxiety and be better prepared for the arrival of the child.
