Haiti - Cap-Haitien : Declaration of a state of environmental emergency

During the regular session of the Municipal Council of Cap-Haitien on December 3rd, 2024, an order declaring a state of environmental emergency throughout the municipal territory was adopted.

A decision that was necessary due to the devastating consequences of the recent torrential rains that caused flooding, landslides and significant damage to public and private infrastructure.

The municipal administration calls on all local stakeholders, national and international partners, as well as the population to unite to meet this environmental challenge together. "Everyone's collaboration is essential to protect our city, restore living conditions and ensure sustainable development."

In addition, awareness campaigns will be conducted to inform citizens of the measures taken and the behaviors to adopt.

The City Hall will ensure the rigorous application of the order and recalls that any illegal construction in risk areas will be punished.
