Haiti - Artibonite : PNH regains control of the city center of Petite Rivière

On Saturday, December 7, 2024, specialized units of the Haitian National Police (PNH), supported by agents of the Multinational Mission, entered the city center of Petite-Rivière de l’Artibonite, in the territory occupied by the gang "Gran grif" of Savien since 2023.

The joint forces proceeded to retake the city center and in particular the Police Station of Petite-Rivière, out of service for more than a year after being ransacked, looted and burned by the gang. An operation that gave rise to a violent armed confrontation, which left many members of the gang mortally wounded, while others wounded fled.

The Police Station of Petite-Rivière de l’Artibonite is once again under the total control of the PNH. The population of Petite-Rivière de l’Artibonite did not hide its joy at the police presence, the escape of the men of "Gran Grif" and the success of the police.

Dort Lereste, the interim Mayor of Savien indicated that many residents had returned to lock themselves in their homes for fear of possible reprisals from the gang.
