Haiti - Health : Médecins Sans Frontières partially resumes its activities in Port-au-Prince
After 22 days of suspension due to repeated threats and violence targeting its staff and patients https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43676-haiti-flash-msf-forced-to-suspend-its-activities-in-the-metropolitan-area.html Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) announces the partial resumption of its medical activities in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince.

A constructive dialogue led the authorities to guarantee respect for MSF teams and medical mission. Despite these commitments, the risks to the safety of teams and patients remain high, particularly during ambulance transport. Patient transport therefore remains suspended for the time being, as does the activity of the Turgeau emergency center, whose operation depends on the possibility of transferring patients safely from one facility to another. The reopening today concerns the hospitals of Tabarre, Carrefour, Cité Soleil and the "Pran Men’m" clinic.

MSF recalls that "Suspending activities in these facilities, even temporarily, was an extremely difficult decision in a city plagued by violence, where medical and health needs are immense. However, the seriousness of the attacks against MSF staff and ambulances made this measure inevitable. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43676-haiti-flash-msf-forced-to-suspend-its-activities-in-the-metropolitan-area.html "

"We continue to work tirelessly to guarantee the minimum security conditions necessary for a full recovery. Despite the commitments made by the authorities, our ability to maintain our activities in the long term in Haiti remains uncertain", explains Jean-Marc Biquet, MSF Head of Mission.

MSF reiterates its call on all parties to respect its staff, patients and medical infrastructure, an essential condition to guarantee the continuity of its activities.
