Haiti - Displaced persons : 3rd day of solidarity, women and girls in the spotlight

As part of the Government's 3rd day of solidarity with displaced persons in Port-au-Prince, Pédrica Saint-Jean, Minister for the Status of Women and Women's Rights, accompanied by Georges Wilbert Franck, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST), gathered nearly 2,500 women in vulnerable situations at Park Sainte Thérèse in Pétion-ville.

Women and girls, pregnant women and the elderly benefited from a food ration allowing them to cope with this difficult stage of their lives.

"In addition to this aid, the team of the Government's Social Assistance Fund (CAS) took care to mobilize other key actors in the chain to help victims, especially the elderly, pregnant women and also those over 50 years old to register on the list of CAS beneficiaries. These women will receive a monthly allowance from the Government until the end of their lives. This allowance will allow them to meet some of their daily obligations and/or set up an income-generating activity."

It was also a question for the beneficiaries, those who particularly lost their National Identification Card (CIN), to register. The Government team, via the MAST as well as the Ministry for Women's Affairs, has a cell of the National Identification Office (ONI) on the site. Action that allowed them to place their grievances, and to follow the procedures for obtaining their card.
