![]() Haiti - Social : 15th anniversary of the 2010 earthquake: Message of reflection from Lesly Condé (Video) 12/01/2025 09:50:53
Message from Lesly Condé: "Dear compatriots and friends from everywhere, Here we are at the dawn of a brand new year. While thanking the Lord for protecting us throughout the year that has just ended, we hope that this year 2025 will bring us even more success and much happiness. Optimism is our best ally at this time when everything is starting again. We will be stronger, more skillful and more persistent this year for having learned from our misadventures. However, even if we are determined to start on the right foot, we simply cannot forget the terrible disaster that struck our dear Haiti on January 12, 2010. This violent earthquake, the worst natural disaster in the history of our Nation, has tested us all in one way or another, and there will still be major challenges for several generations to come. Indeed, having suddenly taken the lives of several hundred thousand people and caused material damage estimated at several billion dollars, this terrible earthquake that struck without warning is without a doubt the worst tragedy of its kind in the entire history of our country. It goes without saying that our compatriots who were already living in inadequate conditions had no means of protecting themselves. The debacle was total and once again, our vulnerable Nation was virtually abandoned to its fate. If from this immense tragedy there emerged a comforting note, it was that of human solidarity. There were magnanimous gestures. Several nations ran to the aid of Haiti. I will suffice to say that human greed and wickedness have, once again, prevailed over the magnanimity of the citizens of the planet. Haiti is still reeling. The catastrophe of January 12, 2010 still lives in our country. We see its depressing presence everywhere. Our Nation’s resilience is tested every day. Wherever you are, don’t hesitate to show solidarity with someone in need." HL/ HaitiLibre
