Haiti - Dominican Republic : Nearly 2,000 Haitians arrested last weekend 22/01/2025 09:01:33
The operations were carried out in different communities in the provinces of Azua, Bahoruco, Barahona, Dajabon, Duarte, Elias Pine, Independence, Montecristi, Pedernales, Puerto Plata, San Jose de Ocoa, San Juan de la Maguana, Santiago Rodriguez, Valverde and Santiago de los Caballeros. Other Haitians were intercepted by motorized patrols while traveling on foot in different communities in the border area. Haitians were intercepted while being transported in different types of vehicles, such as motorcycles, cars, minibuses according to the Army. An Army statement indicates that during these operations, 9 Dominicans were also arrested for transporting Haitian nationals in an irregular situation: - César Augusto Jiménez Meléndez, from the municipality of Tábara Arriba, Azua, who was arrested on a motorcycle with two Haitian nationals in an irregular migratory situation. - Yonervi Sánchez Rodríguez, arrested with 9 undocumented migrants in the municipality of Guayubín, Montecristi. - Franyel Milanes Martínez was arrested in Montecristi, with 4 undocumented Haitians on a minibus. In Loma de Cabrera, Dajabón, Josué Díaz, who was traveling on a motorcycle with 2 illegal Haitians. - Bahoruco, Juan Manuel Bocio Díaz and Miguel Fernando Pérez Duval were arrested in the municipality of Neyba, while they were transporting 10 Haitians in an irregular situation. - Fernelis Cuevas Cuevas and Máximo A. de la Cruz Medina in the same province, were intercepted while traveling on two motorcycles with undocumented migrants. José Luis Peralta González was arrested by the army in Puerto Plata, in the municipality of Imbert, while he was transporting 3 Haitian nationals in an irregular situation in a minibus.
