Haiti - Rome : Leslie Voltaire strengthens ties with IFAD

On Monday, January 27, 2025, Leslie Voltaire, the pro tempore President of the Transitional Council, as part of his commitment to respond to the multiple socio-economic and humanitarian crises in Haiti, met in Rome with Alvaro Lario, Representative of the United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

President Voltaire took stock of the alarming situation in Haiti, particularly in terms of security, food insecurity, and the growing precariousness of the most vulnerable communities. He stressed the urgency of mobilizing international partners and expressed his gratitude for IFAD's continued support by requesting enhanced collaboration to address food challenges.

For his part, Alvaro Lario reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the Haitian Government. The UN organization is committed to aligning its funding and initiatives with the priorities defined by the Haitian authorities, in a concerted and targeted approach aimed at maximizing the impact of interventions on the ground.

This meeting marks an important step in strengthening ties between Haiti and IFAD, paving the way for concrete actions to alleviate the suffering of the Haitian population and lay the foundations for sustainable agricultural development.

President Voltaire concluded by emphasizing the need for increased international solidarity to support Haiti on the path to resilience and progress.
