Haiti - France : Leslie Voltaire meets Jean-Luc Mélenchon (radical left)

As part of his official visit to France, Leslie Voltaire, President pro tempore of the Transitional Council in Haiti, met with MP Jean-Luc Mélenchon, founder in 2026 of the political party "La France Insoumise" (radical left-wing opposition movement, 71 seats out of 577 in the French National Assembly).

"This meeting is part of the desire to strengthen international dialogue and mobilize the support of key partners in the process of stabilization and national recovery," states a press release from the Presidency.

During the discussions, Voltaire explained to his interlocutor the security situation in Haiti, highlighting the efforts made by the Haitian State to restore order, fight gangs and guarantee a climate conducive to democratic expression "Our objective is clear: to ensure a return to stability and allow the Haitian people to fully exercise their sovereignty through free and transparent elections. This is a historic responsibility that we face with determination."

Jean-Luc Mélenchon expressed his commitment to supporting Haiti in its democratic consolidation efforts. He praised the resilience of the Haitian people and reaffirmed the importance of international solidarity to accompany the transition and ensure the success of the electoral process.

Furthermore, the issue of shared memories between Haiti and France occupied a central place in the discussions. Mélanchon advocated for a stronger recognition of the shared history of the two nations and assured his unwavering support for initiatives aimed at establishing historical truth and deepening cultural and political ties between the two peoples.
