Haiti - Politic : 1st Women's Leadership Forum in Haiti (Declaration)

Friday, January 31, 2025, the "Parcours d’Exception" platform, a platform designed to celebrate the inspiring journeys of Haitian women and promote their key role in the development of Haiti, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP-Haiti), organized the 1st edition of the forum on women's leadership around the theme “Women's leadership : pillar of inclusive governance and sustainable development in Haiti". This forum brought together women leaders, experts, key actors, State authorities and members of the international community.

This Forum brought together important personalities such as Pedrica Saint Jean, Minister for the Status of Women and Women's Rights, the Transitional Presidential Advisor, Laurent St-Cyr, the former President of Haiti, Jocelerme Privert, members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of United Nations system agencies, as well as leaders of women's organizations, feminists, inspiring women, opinion leaders, academics and committed actors.

In her speech, Winnie Hugot Gabriel, President of Parcours d’Exception, stressed the importance of this Forum, which is a collective mission aimed at strengthening the place of women in decision-making spaces. According to her, female leadership should not be an option but an imperative, a dynamic to propel Haitian women much further.

For her part, Minister Pedrica Saint Jean, from the outset, thanked the organizers of this forum which aims to make a positive plea and encourage women to take their place in new roles traditionally reserved for men. According to the Minister, this initiative is of capital importance because it allows to create a critical mass of women, capable of identifying a solid alternative for women participation in all spheres of decision-making of the Republic.

For his part, Councilor Laurent St-Cyr believes that it is necessary to value and promote women leadership "Haitian women are not only pillars of our families and communities, they are also essential actors in economic and social development." Referring to the elections, he believes that they will be a key moment for our democracy and "must be an opportunity to strengthen the participation of Haitian women in the political process. It is imperative that women are not only voters, but also candidates, observers and leaders in elections."
