Haiti - Taiwan : Towards a strategic partnership to strengthen the health system ? 07/02/2025 09:25:33
Taiwan, recognized for its expertise in health infrastructure and medical technologies, could play a key role in a strategic partnership to strengthen medical capacity in Haiti. An important meeting identified several priority areas for possible cooperation, including: Strengthening health infrastructure : • Construction of two regional blood transfusion centers in the Great North and the Great South; • Establishment of a national oncology center to provide radiotherapy and chemotherapy care; • Creation of a medical input production center (solutions, drugs, health equipment); • Modernization of hospitals and health centers with possible technical and financial support from Taiwan. Health technology and innovation : • Deployment of telemedicine and electronic medical records to improve care management; • Creation of training centers in digital health and hospital management; Training and human resources development : • Medical exchanges for doctors, nurses and laboratory technicians; • Awarding of scholarships in medicine and public health to Haitian students. Access to medicines and vaccines : • Improving the supply of essential medicines and vaccines; • Collaboration with Taiwanese pharmaceutical laboratories to reduce the cost of medical treatments in Haiti. Health preparedness, response and emergencies : • Strengthening Haiti's capacities in managing epidemics and health crises (cholera, COVID-19, etc...); • Creation of strategic stocks of medicines and medical equipment with the support of Taiwan.
