Haiti - Carnival 2025 : Minister Delatour gives details on the Carnival
Yesterday Tuesday, on the occasion of the “Tuesdays of the Nation”, the Minister of Culture and Communication, Mr. Patrick Delatour, spoke about the preparations for the National Carnival, which will be held this year in Fort-Liberté on March 2, 3 and 4, under the theme “Haiti Debout! Ayiti Kanpe!”.

According to the Minister, the choice of Fort-Liberté reflects a strong desire for decentralization and the promotion of the national historical heritage. Due to the persistent security challenges in Port-au-Prince and the sanitation work currently underway in Cap-Haitien, Fort-Liberté was chosen to host this major popular celebration. This decision is accompanied by an ambitious program to improve local infrastructure, aimed at offering the population and visitors a setting conducive to the celebration.

Budget and works...

As part of the preparations, the State plans significant investments, including the resurfacing of the city's main street with asphalt, as well as the leveling and improvement of secondary roads. He also announced that a budget of 300 million gourdes, provided for in the 2024-2025 finance law, has been allocated to the organization of carnival festivities across the country, including 170 million specifically for Fort-Liberté and 25 million for the municipality of Jacmel.

"There will also be development and restoration work in Fort-Dauphin; work to strengthen the hospital center; preparation and launch of the Fort-Liberté port project and preparation of the Fort-Liberté airstrip renovation project," listed the Minister of Culture.

He also announced permanent digital coverage with a free internet network in the public square; electrical work...

Transportation

With regard to the transportation of carnival-goers who are in the West Department and who would like to go to Fort-Liberté in the context where gangs control the national roads at the northern exit of Port-au-Prince; the minister is confident and sees no transportation difficulties

"There are public transport companies that have organized themselves to provide transportation between Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haitien. There is no difficulty in going to the North."

Fort-Liberté, tourist destination

Beyond the cultural aspect, this initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at boosting the local economy, strengthening hospital services and modernizing the city's digital infrastructure. At the same time, these efforts aim to position Fort-Liberté as a leading tourist destination, highlighting its cultural and historical riches.
