In Haiti, an average of 24 children were killed or injured each month in 2024, making it the deadliest year for children since violence escalated three years ago, said Chantal Sylvie Imbeault, Save the Children’s Haiti Country Director. According to data verified by the United Nations, armed groups in Haiti killed or injured 289 children last year, a 68% increase from the 172 children killed in 2023. However, the true number of child victims is likely much higher. More than one in three children killed in the last three months of 2024 belonged to armed gangs.
