Haiti - Politic : Martelly continues his tour (UPDATE 8h11am)

After visiting Cuba from November 15 to 17, and having participated in Venezuela in the first Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) held on December 2 and 3, the President Martelly returned home Dec. 4.

The Head of State, Michel Martelly will leave the country early this Thursday, December 8, to travel to Trinidad and Tobago where he will attend the 4th Summit of Heads of State and Government of CARICOM and of the Republic of Cuba.

The first summit CARICOM-Cuba was held in Havana, Cuba, in December 2002 in the objective of strengthening the the ties of friendship, of cooperation and solidarity between the two parties. On this occasion, issues of mutual interest were discussed and views on regional development and international shared. The Haitian President will be accompanied among other of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs, Laurent Lamothe.

Updated 8h11am : The Office of Communication of the Presidency informed the press in particular and the general public that the visit of HE Mr. Michel Joseph Martelly in Argentina and Paramaibo (Surinam) was canceled. Finally the President of the Republic will participate only in the fourth CARICOM-CUBA Summit currently taking place in Trinidad And Tobago. He will be back in Haiti's capital Friday, 9 December 2011.

On Saturday, December 10, the President will travel to Argentina to attend the inauguration of the President of this country, Ms. Christina Elisabeth Fernàndez de Kirchner recently re-elected.

On August 12, 2011, the President of Haiti, Michel Martelly, decided to postpone his visit to Argentina after becoming aware of the family problem experienced by the President of the Nation, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

Then the President Martelly will make an official visit of 24 hours to Paramaibo (Surinam) on December 11, before returning to Haiti on December 12.

The official visit to France of Michel Martelly is canceled and postponed to a later date, initially he had to go to France from December 12 to 15at the invitation of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, he should be received at the Elysee Palace, visit the Fort de Joux where oussaint Louverture died on April 7, 1803 after his deportation from Haiti. Recall that President Sarkozy had visited Haiti on February 17, 2010.
