Haiti - Justice : Towards a strengthening of the judicial system...
Patrick Pélissier, the Minister of Justice and Public Security met this week with representatives of the National Network of Haitian Magistrates (RENAMAH), to discuss the challenges faced by the judicial system, particularly with regard to magistrates and the functioning of courts across the country's 18 jurisdictions.

During this meeting, several points were discussed, particularly the poor condition of the buildings housing the courts, the renewal of mandates, the promotion of magistrates, the functioning of the School of Magistrates, the shortage of prosecutors as well as the issue of the retirement of judges.

Minister Pélissier assured that the appointment of new prosecutors will be carried out shortly, in accordance with the requirements of the Public Administration. He also stressed that efforts are underway to renew the mandates of magistrates who have expired and to ensure the temporary relocation of the Court of First Instance of Port-au-Prince, while waiting for a more sustainable solution.

Finally, he reiterated his commitment to accessible, efficient and equitable justice, and displayed his willingness to work closely with all stakeholders in the judicial system to strengthen the rule of law in Haiti.
