Haiti - Cooperation : EU grants budgetary support of 19.5 million Euros to Haiti

The European Union (EU) announced this week a €19.5 million budget support to strengthen the capacity of the Haitian Government to deliver essential services to its citizens and promote macroeconomic stability in times of crisis. This support is part of a broader EU response to the crisis and accompanies security and humanitarian efforts.

This support programme represents a vital step in stabilising the Haitian economy and supporting the delivery of basic services to the population. The EU is actively working to strengthen the resilience of local communities, support efforts to combat gang activity and ensure that the impact of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS) is sustainable. The EU’s decision to release these funds also sends a strong political signal of its continued support to Haiti at a critical juncture in its history.

EU support aims to stabilise Haiti’s macroeconomic framework while promoting ongoing reforms. Beyond addressing immediate economic needs, assistance focuses on improving governance and public financial management, to ensure that the Haitian government can effectively meet the long-term expectations of its citizens in areas such as security and essential services.

The EU Statebuilding Programme contributes to the macroeconomic stabilisation of the country and supports the implementation of Haiti’s 2030 National Development Plan, targeting outcomes in social protection and education. Assistance includes a comprehensive package of technical assistance, policy dialogues and reviews strengthening Haiti’s governance and public financial management. The programme supports core state functions and improves its capacity to deliver basic services to the population in the medium and long term. The EU is working closely with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and other international partners to align efforts with Haiti’s reform objectives.
