Haiti - Agriculture : Minister Vernet Joseph wants to revitalize the coffee industry

As part of efforts to revitalize the coffee sector and explore new opportunities in niche markets, Vernet Joseph, Minister of Agriculture, visited the facilities of Café 509, a joint initiative of a group of Canadian entrepreneurs with the "Coopérative Agricole et Caféière Gabart le Vaillant" (CACGAVA) of Dondon, in the North department. Café 509 promotes high-quality coffee, cultivated with respect for biodiversity.

Welcoming this promising initiative, Minister Vernet Joseph reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to supporting the coffee sector through the National Coffee Institute of Haiti.

He is considering, as a priority, enabling small producers, grouped within CACGAVA, to penetrate the Bahamian market as well as those of other neighboring islands. The Minister took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of the work of these small producers whose contribution is essential to Haiti's economic growth.
