Haiti - FLASH : FAA review of the reopening of PAP airport

On March 12, 2025, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ban on flights by U.S. airlines or U.S. registered aircraft to Port-au-Prince will expire, as Haiti attempts to reestablish its air connection, with international flights from Les Cayes International Airport (not yet authorized by the FAA) after those of Cap-Haitien and Jacmel (authorized) as an alternative to Port-au-Prince's Toussaint Louverture International Airport. Let's recall that the American air regulator banned flights to the Haitian capital on November 12, 2024 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43826-haiti-flash-faa-extends-restrictions-on-us-aircraft-flights-to-haiti-until-march-2025.html after 3 planes were hit by bullets at or near the Port-au-Prince airport : Spirit Airlines (at least 7 impacts https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43614-haiti-flash-spirit-airlines-plane-hit-in-flight-by-several-bullets-video.html ), JetBlue (1 impact) and American Airlines (1 impact) https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-43623-icihaiti-insecurity-the-ministry-of-justice-condemns-the-shootings-on-planes.html

Should be noted that Toussaint Louverture Airport has remained open (for cargo).

On March 12, 2025, the FAA is scheduled to report and decide whether or not to maintain the restriction on American flights to the Haitian capital and whether to authorize the use of Antoine Simon Airport in Les Cayes, which has been open since March 5, as an alternative https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-44417-haiti-economy-inauguration-of-the-renovated-international-airport-of-les-cayes-video.html .

Note that the agency has already modified its measure of November 12, authorizing flights to the airports of Cap-Haïtien and Jacmel, both located on the outskirts of the Haitian capital.
