On Monday, March 17, 2025, the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA), through the Regional Office of Drinking Water and Sanitation (OREPA-Sud), inaugurated the Lafond Drinking Water Supply System (SAEP) in the municipality of Jacmel.

The ceremony was attended by Marco Antonio Penin Toledano, Ambassador of Spain accredited to Haiti; Ms. Lourdie César, Mayor of Jacmel; Engineer Philippe Éliscar, Regional Director for the South of DINEPA; as well as several senior government officials and civil society figures from the Southeast.

This major project in the sector includes :

1 - A 40,000-gallon water reservoir;

2 - An 8-kilometer pipeline;

3 - 4 water distribution kiosks;

4 - 150 private connections;

5 - A solar pumping station with a capacity of 200 m³/day;

6 - A photovoltaic system with 64 solar panels of 355 watts each;

7 - Installation of a backup generator.

The Lafond SAEP is part of DINEPA's efforts to improve access to drinking water in Haiti. It aims to provide a reliable and sustainable drinking water service to the residents of Lafond, thanks to cooperation between the Haitian government and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID).
