Haiti - FLASH : Launch of the Project to Promote and Support Agricultural Startups

Earlier this week, Agronomist Vernet Joseph, Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR), officially launched the Project to Promote and Support Agricultural Startups, in the presence of Agronomist Elancié Moïse, Director General of the Ministry, and Jean Elysé, Coordinator of the Agricultural Sector Investment Promotion Unit (UPISA).

This project, funded by the Public Treasury, aims to boost the agricultural sector's contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Through this initiative, the Ministry's authorities intend to transform the agricultural sector into a true engine of wealth and job creation.

"Agricultural startups will contribute to increasing the sector's added value. These start-ups, designed to add value to agricultural products, are essential to supporting our agriculture, which is facing human, financial, and material constraints, as well as a major challenge : climate change," declared Minister Joseph, emphasizing that this project represents a key pillar of agricultural recovery in Haiti.

In his speech, the Minister specified that the Project to Promote and Support Agricultural Startups provides technical and financial support for selected start-ups.

"The MARNDR intends to mobilize partnerships, both with other ministries and the private sector, to facilitate access to financial resources and create a favorable environment for the development of agricultural startups."

On the sidelines of the ceremony, Jean Elysé David, Coordinator of the UPISA, indicated that this is the launch of the pilot phase of the project, adding, "A call for applications will be launched soon to select startups. As part of this project, the UPISA will act as an incubator." The selected companies will benefit from entrepreneurship training and receive start-up funding to bring their projects to fruition," he added.
