Haiti - Politic : The Prime Minister will participate in the EDD 14/12/2011 13:34:15 The European Development Days, organized this year by the European Commission and the Polish Presidency of the European Union, have become a highlight of the international development agenda. The main theme will be the link between development and democracy. Organized for the first time in a country situated to the east of the former Iron Curtain and in the context of political changes currently being experienced by the Arab world, the 2011 edition of EDD will bring together key players in development. Mr. Garry Conille, Tunisian Prime Minister ai, Mr. Béji Caïd Essebsi, and the President of the Libyan National Transition Council, Mr. Mustapha Mohammed Abdel Jalil, are the latest special guests who have confirmed their participation. These two new speakers are added to the long list of world leaders and prominent personalities from the international scene who have already confirmed their attendance: the Presidents Mahamadou Issoufou (Niger) and Mikheïl Saakachvili (Georgia), the President of Kyrgyzstan, Rosa Isakovna Otounbaïeva, and Professor Shirin Ebadi and Mr. Lech Walesa, Nobel Prize. The Polish President, Bronislaw Komorowski, will participate in the opening ceremony. These two days will also be an opportunity for development actors to discuss the new approach of the European Commission in terms of development cooperation, the "program for change" - a commitment to optimize the effects of aid by favoring fewer sectors and countries that need it most On this occasion Mr. Gary Conille will hold bilateral meetings with Mr José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, Mr. Andris Piebalgs, Commissioner for Development and Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian aid and crisis response. Mr. Conille will speak at the closing ceremony of the JDE alongside Mahamadou Issoufou, President of the Republic of Niger, Andris Piebalgs, European Commissioner for Development, Krzysztof Stanowski, Under Secretary of State for Development Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign of Poland. Learn more about the European Development Days The European Development Days were launched in 2006 to allow key stakeholders to meet and discuss how to improve the effectiveness of aid. Thirty-six heads of state, sixty heads of government or ministers and seven Nobel have participated in the five previous editions. The last, held in Brussels in 2010, attracted 5,000 participants in total. Organized by the European Commission and the Presidency of the European Union, the European Development Days are the main European forum for International Affairs and development cooperation. Global, it provides a platform for collaboration that brings together thousands of defenders, policy makers and development professionals. "Development and Democracy" is the theme of the 2011 edition. Twenty years ago, the Central and Eastern Europe knew profound changes. Last year saw the beginning of the uprisings in North Africa and the Middle East.
